My daughters used to go to our local community elementary school & it’s a friendly place. Parents & teachers mingle & sometimes even see each other socially outside of school & know each other on a first name basis. Some even become friends on Facebook. One day while looking around on Facebook I recognized through friends of friends my kid’s principal! It wasn’t her name, but it was her – thinly disguised under a slightly different name. It was her partying at the Stampede in micro mini shorts & a skin tight tank top, her chugging beers while linking arms with her (I’m assuming) boyfriend, her dressed up for Halloween holding a beer, her & a girlfriend cheering with beer mugs…her holding a tray of jello shots, her posing with friends with glasses of booze while traveling. There was a theme. I’m not saying I don’t drink – I do – but I don’t want my professional image to the world to be shared as this. I have to say, as a principal of my kids & 2 Elementary schools at the time, I lost some respect for her. Your public life as a professional person should be somewhat…well, professional.
Even more than ever how you represent yourself online matters. You are looking for a new job & of course your perspective employer is going to google you – are you holding a beer bottle in your profile photo on LinkedIn? Are your Facebook exploits online the main feed of how you’re representing your life? Is your profile pic a selfie? What’s the perception of you if you googled yourself?
Is it time to clean up your image a little bit? We can help with that. It takes 10 painless minutes at coffee & a portrait. The next one is June 6 & there’s a few spots left. We’d love to get a great professional photo for you…maybe save the beer & jello shots for after the photo session 😉
You see what I’m saying…
